Small-cap stocks gained up to 43% as broader indices showed resilience despite global market fluctuations. Nifty’s path to a record high hinges on crossing 22,100, according to Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities.

Small-cap stocks stole the show in a week marked by volatile global cues and central bank actions. The BSE Sensex and Nifty50 rebounded modestly, with the Nifty Realty, Auto, and Metal sectors leading gains. However, the Nifty IT index faced headwinds, dropping 6%.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) continued to sell equities, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) remained buyers. Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services, noted that market sentiment swung on pivotal policy decisions from major central banks. Despite uncertainties, the market responded positively to the Fed’s commitment to three interest rate cuts this year.

Mid and small-cap stocks showed signs of recovery, buoyed by increased DII and FII inflows. The IT sector struggled due to a global spending slowdown, while realty emerged as the week’s top performer.

Looking ahead, traders are likely to continue buying on dips, but concerns remain about inflated valuations in mid and small-cap stocks. Large caps are expected to outperform in the medium term.
