About Gift Nifty

Gujarat International Finance Tech (Formally known as GIFT Nifty) is a derivative of the Nifty 50 index, which is traded in the International Financial Service Centre (IFSC) Gandhinagar India via NSE IFSC-SGX Connect (“GIFT Connect”), where this trade sets a predetermined price of a share and reduces the future risk of any investments.

Gift Nifty is a new index that will be launched on July 3, 2023 by the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE). It is a derivative of the Nifty 50 index, and it will be traded on the NSE’s International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) in GIFT City, Gujarat.

The main difference between Gift Nifty and the Nifty 50 index is that Gift Nifty will be traded in US dollars. This will make it easier for foreign investors to trade in the Nifty 50 index, and it will also make it easier for Indian investors to hedge their exposure to the Indian rupee.

The NSE has said that Gift Nifty will be a “more liquid and efficient” market for trading in the Nifty 50 index. It is also expected to attract more foreign investment into the Indian stock market.

The launch of Gift Nifty is part of the NSE’s efforts to make India a more attractive destination for foreign investment. The NSE has also said that it plans to launch other derivative products on the Gift Nifty index in the future.

  • Gift Nifty refers to the Nifty index that is traded on the Gift City Exchange in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), India’s first international financial services center
  • Gift Nifty is the NSE’s IFSC-SGX Connect Nifty Index, which is trades on the NSE International exchange located in IFSC, Gift City, Gujarat, India. As we know previously, SGX Nifty was a highly popular derivative product offered by the Singapore Exchange, as it provided foreign investors with the opportunity to participate in the Indian market.   • The full-scale operation of the NSE IFSC-SGX Connect will commence on July 3, 2023, with the transition of SGX Nifty derivatives to NSE IFSC(GIFT NIFTY). Timing of Gift Nifty trading sessions are divided into two: Session-1 and Session-2.

  • In Session-1, the pre-open period begins at 06:15 hrs, followed by the normal market opening at 06:30 hrs and closing at 15:40 hrs. The pre-close period starts at 15:45 hrs and concludes at 15:55 hrs. The cut-off time for setting up position limits and collateral values is at 16:00 hrs, which also marks the end of trade modification for Session-1
  • Session-2 commences with the pre-open period at 16:25 hrs and closes at 16:31 hrs. The normal market opens at 16:35 hrs and continues until 02:45 hrs of the next day. The cut-off time for position limits and collateral values in Session-2 is at 02:50 hrs of the following day. Similarly, trade modification for Session-2 also ends at 02:50 hrs of the next day.
