The Election Commission of India (ECI) is reportedly planning to unveil the dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections after March 9, as per sources cited by News18. The ECI officials are currently conducting final checks in various states, and it is anticipated that the election schedule for 2024 could resemble that of 2019.
In the 2019 general elections, the dates were announced on March 10, with polling taking place between April 11 and May 19 in seven phases. As preparations for the Lok Sabha polls and Assembly elections in certain states intensify, ECI representatives are embarking on consecutive visits to states.
These officials are slated to meet with government officials on March 8-9 to assess the security situation and availability of forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Subsequently, on March 12-13, another visit to Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled to analyze the ground situation, potentially considering the possibility of conducting Assembly polls in the Union Territory concurrently with the Lok Sabha elections.
Additionally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh is set to devise its election strategy on February 20, prior to announcing its candidates for the Lok Sabha polls. The meeting, scheduled for 3:30 pm on February 20, will be attended by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Baijayant Panda, Bhupendra Chaudhary, both deputy chief ministers, presidents of all fronts, regional presidents, and state officials.
The agenda of the meeting includes strategizing rallies for the Lok Sabha elections, with plans for PM Modi, CM Yogi, Amit Shah, and JP Nadda to cover every Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
